I love posting about this Saint – the great 20th century martyr who sacrificed himself in Auschwitz to save another prisoner, who had a family. The prisoner survived and actually attended Kolbe’s beatification and canonization. Kolbe was executed on August 14th, 1941. Interestingly, he is also considered a Saint by the Anglican and Lutheran Churches.
