It’s been months since we managed to get out for a nice hike Last Friday’s Doodletown walk; but after several cancelled efforts, Brigid and I got out for a five miles and a bit hike on Wednesday. It was just the two of us; none of our compadres were available. And there was no one else on the trail at all.
We walked a section of the A.T. that I’ve had my eye on doing for awhile – a stretch starting just north of Graymoor in Putnam County, where routes 9 and 403 meet. The trail crosses the road right there, and we got on it going south, down to where it intersects with route 9D, a half mile north of the Bear Mountain Bridge. We left a car at both ends, in case you’re wondering about the logistics.
It was a very nice walk in good weather, not easy and not hard, which I guess rates it a “moderate” difficulty hike. Up hills, down hills, along wooded ridges, through nice valleys, typical stuff; really great way to spend three and a half hours.
Here are some pix, I took the ones of Brigid and vice versa (duh….).

Brigid took most of these pictures.
