Local Croton priests upstage Holy Father at Yankee Stadium

Well OK, that’s an exaggeration. But those of us from Holy Name of Mary thought it was pretty cool that our Pastor, Fr. Michael Keane, was one of four priests charged with organizing the hundreds of priests who distributed communion.

And our associate pastor, Fr. Loyola, was up on the podium/altar for the entire Mass, with all the other mucky mucks. Of course he didn’t have one of those tall hats…

Here are two pictures Brigid took of Fr. Mike, with cropping and blowing up of the original image after the raw photo. The wind appears to have blown up Fr.’s vestments, so he looks a bit like a vested up Friar Tuck, but he’s actually quite fit!

Here’s the second picture – security guy has lost interest.

Here’s the blown up version

Now here’s Father Loyola, toward the left hand end of the picture. Everyone is waiting for Benedict to come out of the Yankee dugout (this is where he vested and unvested before and after the Mass – maybe used Jeter’s locker?) and get aboard the Popemobile. For those of you who know Fr. Loyola, can you see what he’s trying to do?

Like at least half of the priests and Bishops up on the altar, Fr. Loyola had his camera! He must have gotten some pretty good pictures of the Pope. The blow up of the above photo is grainy, but good enough! That’s him, just about dead center. Pretty funny.

Brigid and I both had cameras, and between us took 301 pictures (sounds like an absurd amount to some people, but if you have a digital camera, you know it’s easy to just keep clicking away) so there’s a lot to sort through. Won’t be able to post more on the Papal mass until late tonight or tomorrow.

UPDATE – And here’s Fr. Loyola even bigger – but lots grainier

  1. thank you so much for the popal visit photos. anticipating more. I had to enlarge the Fr. Loyola one to see “what he was trying to do.” glad you all got a chance to go.

More pix to follow. I added an even more cropped close up of Loyola, but it’s pretty grainy.
