Well not really. But, AT LAST, I hit my goal of benchpressing five sets of five reps with the olympic bar and two large discs (135 lbs.), and one minute between sets. It’s what I used to do on a regular basis, going way back to my pre-chemotherapy days. I’ve posted about my trying to get back to it, more than a few times. Here’s a recent one: Tom Faranda’s Folly: Health Update
I’ve been failing to quite make it for the last three weeks but in the gym around 6 this evening, I was able to complete the sets and reps pretty easily. Must be my biorhythm or something.
I finally got to the goal with the standard training technique of doing heavier weights than my goal (pyramid style), but with fewer reps.
So even though it’s no great shakes really, I am pleased with myself. It comes almost two years to the day since I went into Sloan Kettering for the high dose and stem cell transplant phase of my treatment.
