Last night’s trip to Sloan Kettering

I left a note here last night that I was off to Sloan Kettering Urgent Care, since my temperature was above 100.5 (actually reached 101.9) and I had some bad chills.

Despite my call to the hematologist on duty last night (Dr. Apollo) who told me to go to Urgent Care, they didn’t know I was coming in. She hadn’t called them. But I guess that’s not unusual, since they simply went through there normal protocol. Bloodwork, blood cultures, chest x-ray. My temperature by the time we got to Sloan had come down to 99.7, but I was still feeling knocked out.

The physician on duty, a Dr. Johnson, ultimately gave me a dose of the antibiotic zithromax, and sent me home with a prescription for it. We arrived at Urgent Care at 9:30, and left at 11:15, which was much faster then my two previous trips there.

One interesting point – my white blood count was 2.5 and my abs. neut number was 1.8, much lower then the numbers from just 36 hours earlier, when I’d had my regular Friday complete count. But I don’t know what it means and the physician wasn’t concerned, since the absolute nuet. number was still within normal range.

Today, Brigid feels ill – she has a bad throat, her ears are ringing, and she’s knocked out. She told me this morning that she felt a bad throat coming on as we drove to Sloan. And, this morning Joe also felt rough. So the only OK person right now is Tim (he probably contaminated us last week with his bad cough!) and he’s still got his ankle in a cast.

We’re a sorry lot right now!
