Tim Faranda broken fibula update

Tim is coping well since breaking his fibula just above his foot (so in his ankle – duh!) last Friday afternoon.

We saw the othopedic surgeon – a very nice fellow in Tarryown by the name of Ralph Purcell – on Monday. Tim had worn an aircast since his Saturday visit to the  Phelps ER and Dr. Purcell left it on. He will put a cast on the ankle tomorrow morning, as he wanted the swelling to go down before putting it on.

The cast will be on for about four weeks, or maybe a little longer. The break is across the bone, not on a diagonal, and goes into the growth plate. The surgeon is pretty certain it will heal up quite nicely, and in six weeks or thereabouts, Tim will be back to normal.

At this stage, Tim has very little pain and is enjoying the celebrity status that comes with a cast and crutches at school in the fourth grade. He also is sleeping in our bed, since we don’t want him going upstairs to his room, at least until he has the cast off. Either Brigid or I spend the night in Tim’s room (a wonderful room with a ten year old’s collection of stuff!) with the other of us sleeping with him.
