In a recent discussion I was having with a small email group (NOTE – we were discussing the USA Today article two weeks ago about Al Gore, and the fact that for all his gloom and doom about the pending ecological cataclysm, his main house is 10,000 square feet, has 20 rooms and eight bathrooms. Oh, and he also maintains two other residences.) I mentioned that I’d certainly pay a little more for wind energy, but the option doesn’t exist locally.
Well, my friend John Lally straightened me out – indeed there is such an option with Con Ed. As well as with a couple of other utilities in the area, if you aren’t serviced by Con Ed. Here’s the link: GreenPowerMain
We took the Green Power option, which is described as 65% run-of-the-river hydro (If you know what that means, please leave a comment, because I sure don’t. Sounds good, though.) and 35% wind power. It looks like it will raise our gas and electric bill about 8%, so we think it’s worth it.
