The boys started their summer programs today. Joe is in a five week program at Fordham Prep called the HAP, or High Achievement Program. I went down for the orientation this morning with him and it looks pretty interesting. In the morning they’re doing reading, math and language arts, and in the afternoon a variety of non-academic activities. Fordham Prep started this program 30 years ago and this year there are over 240 soon-to-be eighth graders participating, including eight from Joe’s school.
The trick of course is going to be getting him to the Prep, which is on the Fordham University Bronx campus. We are going to be car pooling with two other boys, so that fun will be spread around.
Tim has started at Teatown, with their summer nature program. He loves Teatown (well he loves catching frogs, getting soaking wet and filthy…) and will be going four weeks.
Tim will also be using a 3rd to 4th grade "bridge book" for the summer. We’ve used them the past two summers and they work well. It’s structured and disciplined – and "incentivized" by Dad – all of which Tim needs.
