My meeting with Dr. Casper this morning before my rituxin treatment resulted in my getting a prescription for Nystatin. Dr. Casper felt I had a yeast infection in my mouth/throat. I had that type of problem after the first RCHOP treatment months ago. I could have gotten it this time from taking the Tequin antibiotic – it destroyed the natural flora in my mouth and the thrush yeast moved in. I think that’s probable.
Nystatin is a medication you briefly gargle with and then swallow (or "swish and swallow" as they medical people call it). It’s helped already. The silly, phlegmy cough I had is gone, my temperature is normal and I feel pretty normal (as in prowling around the kitchen looking for something to munch on, which I haven’t felt like doing in several days).
Sadly, I will be missing out on any St. Paddy’s day festivities. However, I will be wearing my now almost-30-years-old-green-tie-with-the-derby-with-the-arrow-through-it! EVERY SCORE COUNTS. To those who know the story, no explanation is necessary, to those who don’t, well I’ll try to explain tomorrow.
