My now-famous rugby-playing colleague has additional suspicions about Libby

It turns out that Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case, who I knew pretty well (See my previous posting Tom Faranda’s Folly: I played rugby with Patrick Fitzgerald )had additional allegations of lies by Libby.

See this article – More Allegations of Libby Lies Revealed in the Washington Post.

However, here is the second paragraph from the above article:

"The records also show that by August 2004, early in his investigation of the disclosure of Plame’s identity, Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald had concluded that he did not have much of a case against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby for illegally leaking classified information. Instead, Fitzgerald was focused on charging Cheney’s top aide with perjury and making false statements, and knew he needed to question reporters to prove it."

So the case , scheduled to go to Court January 8, 2007 (why the wait?) will revolve around Libby’s perjury to the Grand Jury (bad enough!), rather than accusing Libby of revealing classified information.
