Day 15 – transplant plus 7

Not really any change today. We are still at zero for the cell counts and waiting for the “engrafting” and the counts to go up. Mouth and throat no change, still very manageable with the morphine pump.

The new attending physician – the transplant docs take two week turns making rounds on the floor and he took over from Dr. Comenzo – is Dr. Ejali. I asked him this morning why I hadn’t needed any whole blood transfusions, only platelets. “It’s very unusual,” he said. I also asked him if the high dose chemo would eventually cause my newly returning hair to fall out (It still seems to be growing in. I have to shave every couple of days.)  The nurse practitioner jumped in and said “yes”, but the Doc said “Maybe, maybe not.”

Dr. Ejali then said, “The fact that you haven’t needed whole blood or had more problems, doesn’t mean the chemotherapy isn’t working.” He said occasionally some people worry that if they are not suffering enough the chemo is not functioning!

He finished by saying “You have an unusual body.” I said “I’ve been told that by other people.”

I had some more cool visitors today, but haven’t had a chance to download their pictures off the camera. Will get to it tomorrow.

I finished 1776. See the previous post.
