With my journal prediction track record – see – Tom Faranda’s Folly: Yankees – this year’s team of Destiny? a hearty display of modesty is in order.
That said, I think the rugby match between New Zealand and England tomorrow will be closer then predicted. This is because: A) The All Blacks appear to be over-confident, B) England is playing at home with 75,000 screaming supporters, and C) the best New Zealand forward (#7 Richard McCaw) has withdrawn from the match due to injury.
Whereas I had thought New Zealand would win by about 12 points, without McCaw I think it will be around 8. They really appear overconfident. Especially since earlier in the week New Zealand was awarded the hosting of the 2011 World Rugby Cup. They really think their you-know-what is ice cream.
But it’s still difficult to see how England could win. Maybe if one of the New Zeland players was sent off for foul play and the England had a man advantage for the whole game? Maybe then. Otherwise it’s hard to see them scoring, except through penalty goals.
So Ithink about 28-20 to the All Blacks, with the try count three to one. I am a great fan of New Zealand rugby, so I wouldn’t mind seeing them thrash the Poms. Just don’t think they will. Still, a win is a win and I think it will go New Zealand’s way.
