Historian David McCullough

David mcculough

The great historian and writer. I read his first famous book  "The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal” in 1977 when I had moved to Jamaica on my teaching job. A year later over my Easter break I traveled to the canal on my way to see my brother Jim in Guatemala. And years later – 2007 -  I read his "1776" – the crucial Revolutionary War year. He wrote quite a number of other very well received history books and biographies. See the link below.

He was 89 and we should all have that kind of long and productive life.

David McCullough, who was known to millions as an award-winning, best-selling author and an appealing television host and narrator with a rare gift for recreating the great events and characters of America’s past, died on Sunday at his home in Hingham, Mass., southeast of Boston.
