Feast Day – the 16 Carmelite martyrs of Compiegne – reign of terror

So – now Saint Teresa of St. Augustine and her Companions. Pope Francis canonized them in December. Their story, which brought on the end of the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution, is the first video. It was made when they were still "Blessed". This is their first Feast Day on the Catholic calendar. 

The second video is the end of the film version of the famous opera about them.

Kind of goes along with yesterday's posting. Important Feast – Our Lady of Mt. Carmel  Today is the date of their martyrdom.

  1. Thank you for posting. Back in Queens, we had a French neighbor. Her family had been marking this event for many decades with a very generous donation to the sisters—as they reputedly had a long-ago ancestor related to one of the martyred nuns. I had quite forgotten about this.

  2. I did some more reading up on this today when time permitted. What a story! Thank you again for jolting the old memory box.
