Health update
Last week I saw Dr. Zeitlin, the ENT physician treating my sinusitis, and again had a complete blood count (CBC) at MSK in Sleepy Hollow. My sinus infection feels much better, but I still have a drip. Dr. Z confirmed this when she stuck that little flexible tube up my nose and had a look-see.…

Coping with breast cancer if you’re a young woman
The Washington Post had a feature article today on young woman dealing with breast cancer. The author is a reporter for the Post, who was diagnosed with the cancer at age 32. A long and interesting feature. My close family friend and part time assistant Amy died five years ago of breast cancer at the…

Health Update
Had my blood test today, but wont have the results until next Monday or Tuesday. As far as the sinusitis, eleven days into the antibiotic regimen and feeling good. I have gotten to the gym five of the last seven days and will go today (Saturday) and tomorrow. I am also going to see Dr.…

Health update
Boy do I feel rotten. Not lymphoma, just a continuation of my sinusitis/upper respiratory infection. I am back on antibiotics for the fourth time since November. I finished a course of aungmentin xr last Wednesday, the day before my double doctor visit to Sloan Kettering. And I felt pretty good – until Sunday night into…

Health Update – today’s visits to MSK
By Memorial Sloan Kettering standards we had a whirlwind visit. It’s the first time I’ve seen two doctors on one visit AND I had a bone marrow biopsy, and still was out of there in just over two hours (including cafeteria stop to buy lunch for the road.) At 11AM I was in the hematology…

Health Update
Tomorrow is a doubleheader for me. I’m going down to Memorial Sloan Kettering at 11 o’clock and see Dr. Klimek. She’ll do a follow-up bone marrow biopsy (she did one two months ago). Then at noon I’ll see the lymphoma guru, Dr. Zelenetz. I didn’t get my blood test results from last Friday, but I…

A year ago today, I was discharged from Memorial Sloan Kettering
Hard to believe it’s been a year since my 20 day stay in Sloan. Six days of high dose chemotherapy, my stem cell transplant, and then the wait for my white blood cell count to get back up to normal range. Here’s my posting for January 28, 2006: Tom Faranda’s Folly: Day 20 – noontime…

Health update
Got my results from last Friday’s complete blood count. White count (WBC’s) was 4.9, down from 10.3 the prior Friday. Absolute neutrophil (sp?) was 3.9, down from 8.4. However both are currently in the normal range. Since the trend is down after getting the neulasta shot on January 5th, I expect that the results of…

Health update
Got the results of last Friday’s blood count. I had a good and quick response to the shot of the white blood cell booster Neulasta, which I received the previous Friday. My WBC count was 10.3 (high normal) and the absolute neutrophil (sp?) count was 8.4 – another high normal. I will have another blood…

366 days ago, I went into Sloan Kettering for my 20 day chemotherapy and stem cell transplant stay
Yup. Hard to believe it was one year ago yesterday that I went into MSK. The chemotherapy started the day I arrived, so by this time last year I’d received a whole day of the six day high dose chemo regimen.
