Gone at 84. Pretty famous in his day -  – as a football player, party guy, and gambler. Went from Notre Dame, where he was quarterback and won the Heisman Trophy,  to Green Bay Packers where he wore #5 and was converted to a halfback. He was a triple threat player, running, passing and kicking with the Packers from 1957-1966. Oh, and he was also a petty good receiver out of the backfield. Hornung was suspended from the NFL for the 1963 season for gambling.

"Obviously the Packers have lost another legend,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “That’s four for the year with him, Adderley, Willie Wood and Willie Davis. Anytime you lose legends like that, it’s always a sad day. They’re a big reason why the Green Bay Packers are the Green Bay Packers.”

I had forgotten that he had been sent packing by the NFL for the 1963 season for gambling; I suppose a most fitting penance for a Green Bay Packer!
