Cullen Jones won a gold medal in the famous 4×100 freestyle relay in Bejing in 2008, where the USA just beat France after an epic swim by the American anchor swimmer, Jason Lezak.
Now in this Olympics he’s won a silver in the same 4×100 relay and then Friday got a silver in the 50 m individual freestyle race.
Jones is a graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep, an all-boys school in Newark, NJ, run by the Benedictine order. We have frequently been guests of my friend Bill Connolly at an annual dinner fund-raiser at St. Benedict’s.
After Cullen got his 2008 gold medal, he spoke at the 2009 dinner. Brigid and I chatted with him briefly, and he is a super-nice guy.
We’ve been closely following his races in the London Olympics and are thrilled about his two medals.
Below is his picture with Fr. Ed, the headmaster at St. Benedict’s (picture off wikipedia) and below that a picture I took of him at the 2009 dinner.

I’m not sure who the woman is with Jones, but it’s not Brigid.
