Olympics open today; here’s my all-time favorite race – 1988 women’s 400 m hurdles

The 400 m hurdles has got to be the toughest race – virtually a sprint and jump over the hurdles!

I remember I had taped this live on our VCR, along with lots of other races. Last night I went looking for it on youtube. The vid below is what Brigid and I saw – the USA feed. I also found the Australian feed, and the UK feed and have links to them. Interesting to see the different commentaries.

The Aussie runner’s sister had died just a few days before the race. What a finish!

Here’s the Aussie feed – a minute and a half.

And the British feed – 4 and a half minutes long.

  1. Fantastic finish. Was a great race. Thanks for posting.
Watched the Women’s Olympic Triathlon the other night…another gripping photo finish… was in absolute awe of Australian, Erin Densham’s performance- which won her a Bronze medal!
(She came 22nd at the Beijing Games- was not even thinking about going in the 2012 triathlon three years ago. She had under gone heart surgery and had suffered various injuries- as well as some dramas with selection.)
