Action at Notre Dame as police crack down on 80 year old priest carrying crucifix

The priest in the video below is Fr. Norman Weslin, an uber pro-life activist who is now 80 years old.

Brigid and I know him pretty well, going back to 1991; in fact he’s said Mass at our house. Besides founding the Mary Weslin Home for pregnant women, he was the founder and guiding light of the anti-abortion civil disobedience group, the Lambs of Christ.

So here he is carrying a crucifix around ND yesterday (Friday) – protesting the Obama commencement speech tomorrow and his honorary degree – and the arrest him.

What’s the point? Like he’s a danger to the community?

I support the presidents of both Notre Dame and the US and find the protests to be so over the top. But I never have found the the actions of the most radical Catholic anti- abortion folks to be very inspiring. Rather they are alienating to me, a Catholic. Found the letter Kevin Doyle circulated for publication ( and which Tom ciruclated but no doubt did not sign)be far more to the point. But some people have one track minds ( and one track faith it seems).
