I don’t get involved in local politics, but my friend and neighbor Sue Konig is running for village Trustee. The election is March 20th. And there’s actually an important issue. Has to do with the local environment.
Croton Republicans running against transfer station
CROTON-ON-HUDSON – The Republican Party is running on a platform to close a controversial rail-transfer station and has selected a vocal critic of the operation as a candidate for office.
Susan Konig, 44, was nominated to run with Mayor Greg Schmidt, who is seeking a second term, and Thomas Brennan for three open seats on the village Board of Trustees. …
… Konig, who has written for a number of publications including The Washington Post and New York Post, said concern over the future of the rail-transfer facility prompted her to run. The site north of the Croton-Harmon train station has been loading and unloading construction material since Buffalo Southern Railroad began limited operations there last year. The previous operator, Metro Enviro, closed in 2005 after a long legal battle over operating violations.
Konig said the Democrats have not been forceful enough in seeking to close the operation, and she favors the hard-line Republican approach involving litigation, not negotiations.
“I just felt I had to step up and work for the best interests of the people of Croton. They don’t want another (rail-transfer) company in Croton. And, as a mother, I don’t want 20,000 trucks a year rolling through Croton,” said Konig, who has not run for office before.
Here’s Sue!
