Joe finished his HAP (High Achievement Progam) five week summer stint at Fordham Prep today. As I previously mentioned, this was a program for boys entering the eighth grade, with academics in the morning and sports in the afternoon. They had a very nice graduation ceremony this morning.
The 240 boys were in fifteen groups of about 16 boys, and Joe won the “Best Overall Student Award” for his group. We are very pleased about this, and think it is a great confidence-booster for Joe.
He also did a good job in the sports programs, at least holding his own in track and field, soccer, baseball, touch football, etc. He’s not usually inclined toward any sports, so this was also good for his confidence.
In fact the second week he came home and said “We played baseball today.” When I asked him how he did, he said “Well I didn’t strike out.” An accomplishment, since the only baseball he plays is when I can talk him into going for a catch with Tim and I (about twice every baseball season!)
Here is Joe (wearing his “Best Overall” medal) along with Austin Hall and Greg Cunningham, the two boys who car-pooled with us to get them down to the Bronx campus. The car poooling was an elaborate production, involving Dads, Moms, and short hop train rides!
